A Maori Perspective
Tepora Pukepuke -
A Maori Perspective

Tepora was introduced by John Beck who was her Geography teacher at Takapuna Grammar.
Tepora completed her Bachelor and Masters degrees at Massey university.  She then became a soical worker who specialised in child protection.

For her current research for her PhD, Tepora is seeking to improve Maori students' educational success.

Last year, Tapora completed a project to explore how the concept of 'Powhiri' can be used to help students to better prepare and construct essays and contribute to enhanced teaching and learning.  She ran a focus group on the 'Powhiri' process and used this to scaffold students to understand that the powhiri process follows that of essay writing with an introduction, middle and in the future.  The students talked about 'Critical Thinking'.

Tepora's current role is involved with the education of Maori nurses.  7% of nurses are Maori and this hasn't changed for 15 years.  She will shortly be travelling to Spain for further research.
