Guest Speaker 9th May 2022
Wayne Brown - Mayoral Candidate
'Let's Fix Auckland Together'
Wayne is campaigning for a better future for Auckland. The Auckland area runs from Wellsford to Pukekohe.
Wayne explained that Rodney Hyde's Super City plan has not worked. There has been a 'telephone book' of plans but only a handful of completed projects.
Wayne outlined the five point plan of his campaign:
'1. Fix Auckland's Infrastructure:
Auckland's aging infrastructure is groaning under the pressure of growth. Big expensive projects are behind time and well over budget. As an example, the Dome Valley project has been under construction for 10 years.
Let's finish what we have started before launching yet more endless plans.
2. Stop Wasting Money
Auckland Council and its CCO's are top heavy with overpaid managers who waste ratepayers money everywhere and this must be reined in.
3. Take Back Control of Council Organisations
Auckland Transport is a huge bureaucratic monster that needs to be focused on transport only.
Watercare is a simple engineering business that needs to concentrate on reliable water and sewerage projects only.
Ports of Auckland occupy $6 billion of prime waterfront land. They must start making real returns for ratepayers.
Panuku and Auckland Unlimited are expensive organisations that need to deliver for ratepayers or be shut down.
4. Get Auckland Moving
We need to harness technology to get traffic moving around faster. Complete the busways and optimise our transport networks to get Aucklanders moving.
5. Make The Most of our Harbour and Environment
Auckland is a great place to live. we need to make the most of our beautiful harbour and the environment we live in.
We need to act now to deliver the future we deserve.'
The Auckland City Mayoral election is 'First Past The Post.'
