Wayne Brewer and Bryan Haggitt, our Co-Presidents for the 2025 - 2026 Rotary Year

Messages From Co-President Bryan Haggitt

Meeting - Monday 25th August

Speaker: Matt Shanks:  Solar Energy Generation, the Way of the Future:

Speaker - the Hon. Cameron Brewer
Invited to speak by his cousin, Co-President Wayne, Cameron, the consummate politician, spoke for some 40 minutes without notes from his early days at Newmarket Business Association through National Party antics and life in Parliament. By speaking at length Cameron avoided a lengthy question time but fielded adroitly a curly one asking his opinion on "whether Speaker Gerry Brownlee is a good speaker". Thank you Cameron - a very good, friendly insight into political life, entertaining and an insight into the background of some political happenings.

Prof. Kenneth Palmer
Ken hit the media headlines yesterday - quoted in the NZ Herald and on the ZB News - following the remarkable victory of a 20 year student who took AT to the High Court over those detested road humps and raised pedestrian crossings. Ken obviously taught the lad well and backed him to the hilt - well done Ken!

David Hunt, a Paul Harris Fellow
David was a Rotarian, in fact a President, long before joining Remuera Rotary - in fact well over 40 years service. In addition, for over 10 years, David has been the Chairman of the Remuera Rotary Trust and the Blackwell Trust. Through his sound leadership these Trusts are in a particularly healthy state and invaluable to us in financing Club projects and other charitable works. As Co-President Wayne explained, we have a number of Rotarian members who have given sterling service of over 40 years and are most deserving of Paul Harris Fellowships. David is the first such recipient to receive this recognition of his service beyond self - congratulations, David!

Walking Group
Thanks to Murray Weatherston for organising the Sunday morning walk and, thankfully for them, missed the All Blacks' dismal performance! I gather the walk went well in the sunshine and that the coffee at the end was very much appreciated.

Next Meeting - 1 September, Scott Weenink, CEO, NZ Cricket
We are expecting quite a number of guests next Monday so Let's Eat must be advised of numbers on Friday. Please ensure that any apologies are entered by Friday and not on Monday.

Next Meeting - Monday 25th August:  Hon. Cameron Brewer MP

Rylarians/Friends of Remuera Rotary - you are most welcome and to, also, ask those questions that you have always wanted to ask.

Enjoy the rest of the week and I look forward to seeing you all on Monday
