Guest Speaker - Mike Maran
Mike Maran is a specialist in handwriting, signature examination, document examination, handwriting comparison and character analysis.
He is a Certified Graphologist. He described his training in the United States, and that he is recertified each year. There are only three certified graphologists in New Zealand.
Much of his talk related to forensic graphology. This was fascinating and well-illustrated with examples of cases he’d worked on. When comparing two documents he first asked our opinion as to whether the writing was by the same person, and then explained the factors that he took into account to come to a conclusion. It wasn’t immediately obvious! However, when he showed the differences or similarities, it then became clear. No wonder he’s asked to testify in court.
Mike also described how handwriting changes over time, and as we get older it deteriorates, much like the effects of alcohol intoxication on writing.
There was a lively Q&A session. We lamented the loss of handwritten letters, and many members has preserved old handwritten (love) letters. Few of us will have saved emails, tweets etc.

Salvation Army Food Packing
The Rotary Club of Remuera in conjunction with Newmarket Club will undertake Salvation Army food packing on the first Wednesday of each month. We require a minimum of 4 volunteers and a maximum of 6 each month from Remuera Club. The dates are:
September 1 - no more volunteers required
October 6 - looking for 2 more volunteers
November 3 - looking for 2 more volunteers
December 1 - looking for 3more volunteers
If you would like to volunteer please add your name to your available dates, and email back to Ed. Mitchell - edmitch@orcon.net.nz.
For each date Ed. will take the first 6 and the later ones will be reserves. So get you bid in early!!
For information: The venue is 18 Allright Place, Mt Wellington (this is a change from previously).
Start time is earlier, now 09:00. We will finish at 12:00

Tree Planting at Motuihe - Sunday, 8th August
The next tree planting day at Motuihe is on Sunday 8th August. It would be great to see a good number of members being able to attend. This opportunity is also open to family and friends.

St. Aidan's Church Annual Quiz

We have entered a team in the St. Aidan's annual quiz being held on Friday evening, 6th August at St. Aidan's. We are allowed a maximum team size of 8. Fellowship Walk -
Waiatarua Reserve - 15th August at 9.30am
Organised by Ed. Mitchell
Suggested parking: Nr Men's Shed, Abbotts Way or in Abbotts Way itself.
This is a circular 2.7k flat walk (my app says there is a total 40m altitude gain), therefore it is suitable for all. The track is well maintained hard gravel.
Coffee will be at Remuera Golf Club
This will occur whatever the weather. Remember there's no bad weather, only bad clothes.
Crate Party - Friday, 20th August
Murray Weatherston has organised our first Fellowship event for the year with details as follows:
Put Friday 20 August [6.30pm until late] in your Diary.
This will be held at the Haggitts, Lucerne Road. Will finalise details closer to the day but likely to take the course of least resistance and have pizzas again, Jenny will provide pre dinner snacks (we will fund these as no host should be out-of-pocket)- $10 per head for entry, a bottle for a couple and a bottle for every second single (figure out for yourself whether you are a first or a second if you are a single). The cash will be officiously enforced, but you are responsible for unchecked self-compliance for the refreshments.
We already have an offer for the second crate party in November. But we’re looking for a host or hosts for first half of 2022.
Partners Evening and Invitation to Rotary Club of St. John's - Monday 30th August
As we heard from the RYLA graduates at our last meeting, one of the stand out Speakers was Allison Mooney.
We are extremely fortunate to be having Allison as our Guest Speaker on Monday 30th August. Allison is an International Speaker.
People who know or have heard a presentation from Allison before have commented that we are extremely fortunate to have secured Allison to be our Guest Speaker.
This is a fantastic opportunity to invite family members and friends who you have thought about bringing to a Rotary meeting. Completed Projects
Salvation Army Food Packing
Five members of Rotary Club of Remuera packed food boxes at the Salvation Army’s Mt Wellington warehouse. We did this with the Rotary Club of Newmarket. It was very successful, and in 2.5 hours packed 170 boxes. Volunteers were President Leigh, John Cowan, Peter Salmon, Neil Ewart and myself. The photo shows Peter, Neil and John in the background loading the boxes.
