Rotary Club of Remuera Inc.
Weekly Club Bulletin

22 May 2023 Vol. 44 No. 37
Youth Service Month

President Wayne Brewer

First an update on the St Johns Club and Auckland East Clubs unfortunate publicity last week. St Johns sent a letter of Apology to Jacinda Ardern which she accepted stating that Rotary does a lot of great work in the Community and not to lose sight of that.

This week 28 Members enjoyed a fascinating address by Tane van der Boon on Motivation in which he described his motivation from AI Technology in setting up two enterprises - one being a not for profit venture studying Maui Dolphin by using drones and the other - assisting industry with Health and Safety practices. Very high tech and intelligent the drones can identify specific marine species and send information on their whereabouts, behaviour, feeding etc back to shore for research. In the 1980's these Dolphins numbered about 360, now there  are only about 60 in the wild. Iain Valentine gave the vote of thanks to warm acclamation.

New Members talk - Ingrid Grieve gave an enlightening insight into her life both in NZ and throughout the World. Now working and living back in Remuera, Ingrid is enjoying her career in Real Estate at Sotheby's International based in the former ANZ branch and Post Office building on the Victoria Avenue corner. Welcome Ingrid, I am sure you will make a great contribution to Remuera Rotary.

Almoners - An update on Roy Austin.  As of this week Roy will be residing in the Memory Loss unit at Rawhiti Estate in Rangitoto Ave, Remuera and visitors from the Club are welcome.

AG Joyti Singh - Rotary tour to India - Joyti and her husband are planning their fourth Rotary trip to India departing February 2024 for 21 days. They  invite any interested Rotarians to join them. A number of our Members have participated in the past. If you are interested I can forward the information provided thus far - an information evening is planned in July.

Fellowship - if Committees have not already done so please try to include a Committee Fellowship event before Changeover. The Fellowship Committee and I are pursuing a couple of ideas including a film evening at the Silky Otter if a suitable film is available. Further details TBA.

Buying the Bag - a few weeks ago Kevin and I attended the Rotary Club of Henderson who have a tradition of Members buying the bag to relate amusing stories. I kicked it off this week in the hope others will take up the challenge. In Henderson's case several Members bought the bag creating much hilarity!

Sergeant John Cowan raised $117.70 for the Sunshine Fund.  Thank you and well done John.

Next week's Speaker will be from The Salvation Army.  I expect we will be updated on the wide ranging activities of that organisation of which we are very supportive.

We look forward to welcoming everyone again on Monday.
Wayne.

Tane van der Boon thanked by Iain Valentine
