President's Message
member photo
It was nice to see Vinny Sabe, Jo Drillien and Adriaan van de Wetering back at our meeting  Monday along with Rotarian partners Cher Reynolds and Laurina Bernecker.
A special thank you to Bruce for his presentation which included an introduction to the Fiji Village Water Project that he is well on the way with.  It is wonderful to see the way that Bruce is harnessing the expertise of various members in our Club to help with this Project.
We have been asked to help with planting trees at Waiatarua Reserve on Sunday 17th August at 1pm.  More details about this will be given at our meeting.
Previous week's speaker
Our own Bruce Howe presented three topics to the club.
Club Finance
Last financial year the club itself raised a net $47,000, most of which was given to the Fiji O2 project. Club operations ran at a loss of $2,234. The current directors are addressing this matter and a solution may be a subscription increase. A shortfall of $37,000 is projected in the current financial year, with committees budgeting to spend $130,000.
New World screen
The screen has three objectives:
Promote Rotary;
Display community notices; and
Commercial advertising to raise funds for the club's charitable activities.
Last year the screen raised $20,800 and has the potential to raise more. The club needs members to approach firms and encourage them to buy time on the screen. Please see Iain or Bruce if you are willing to assist with this vital activity.
Soso Village Water project
The village is in the Yasawa Island group in Fiji. It has 350 people, including 90 children in about 100 homes. Their water is contaminated and has tested unsafe to drink. Bruce  is well into organising a project to pump bore water up to tanks, using solar electricity. The water would be gravity fed into filters and piped to homes. The project is anticipated to cost around $65,000 and is included in the International committee's budget.
Rotary Leadership Institute
This notice is a reminder of the next Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI) on Saturday 7 September and Sunday 8 September 2019. This will be held at Selwyn College.
We encourage all new and existing Rotarians to attend, and especially those who will be taking up leadership roles. Murray Weatherston has all the details. You may get them from .

The four way test
of the things we think, say or do
1. Is it the truth?  2. Is it fair to all concerned?  3. Will it build goodwill and better friendships?  4. Will it be beneficial to all concerned?
