Wayne Brewer and Bryan Haggitt, our Co-Presidents for the 2025 - 2026 Rotary Year
Messages From Co-President Bryan Haggitt
Speakers last Monday - Anthony Healy and Carmel Bennett
Anthony and Carmel enlightened us hugely as to how the music industry works, how the artists are paid through clipping media advertising tickets and all commercial playing of music - fascinating!
And, as a charitable spinoff from that, their charitable work with the elderly and, particularly dementia sufferers, where music is found to be remarkably beneficial. Thank you Anthony and Carmel!
Rising Costs and Future Catering Charges
As Co-President Wayne and I explained last Monday, Let's Eat has had no option but to increase their catering charge from 1 July. We put some alternate catering suggestions to the Meeting but, with the cost saving likely to be small and the inconvenience great, the Meeting unanimously voted to retain the catering as it is but that Members be charged $40 per person from 1 July.
To alleviate costs to Members, the Sergeants session will be discontinued after 1st July. The Sunshine Fund will be funded up to $3,000 per year from the New World sign and other sources. An initial $2,000 has been set aside to start the year off.
RYLA
As mentioned on Monday, the 10 Rylarians that we are mentoring were transported last Saturday from the New World Remuera Car Park to Willow Park, Eastern Beach. Many thanks to Etienne, Iain, David and Bipan for being on time, 6.30am, providing transport! At time of writing the 119 Rylarians are camping for the 2nd night in the open and no doubt enjoying the experience of problem solving under duress and sleep deprivation - character building! Some of us will hear about it on Friday at their Awards Dinner and the Rylarians themselves will give the Club a debrief on 14 July.
