To All Members and Friends of Remuera Rotary:
It was good to see two guests of Rotarians at our Meeting on Monday - John Slater and Dr Samy, guests of Kay Brookes and Vinny Sabe - as well as our Guest Speaker, Greg Fleming.
With the election looming, Greg - National Party candidate for Maungakiekie - explained that he came originally from Masterton and, from a very early age, an entrepreneur. Dabbling in a flock of chickens whilst his siblings ran pigs and calves, he sold eggs around the Wairarapa and then dabbled disastrously in the sharemarket. Returning from a stint overseas he was employed by not for profit charities, he married and now has 4 children with ages from 23 down to 14.
Greg is now endeavouring to enter politics and explained the greatest concern within his Maungakiekie electorate - which encompasses Onehunga, Royal Oak and Ellerslie - is law and order followed by the rising cost of living and inflation. He very clearly spoke of National's platform and then went on to answer a great number of questions - on issues that, very clearly, trouble our members.
NOTE: Rotary is an apolitical organisation but, being an election year, various candidates are given an opportunity to address us. Over recent months David Seymour (Act), Paul Goldsmith (National) and now Greg Fleming have spoken to the Club and, on 18 September, our speaker will be Camilla Belich, a Labour List MP.

Ross Forrester is checking to see if our Attendance Sheet can be better laid out so PLEASE, if you have a concern re getting the correct meal, contact Ross so that the Sheet properly records your wishes.
Our Speaker next Monday is Frank Olsson, a renowned speaker. Unfortunately I have another engagement so will miss him but Past President Wayne Brewer will be standing in for me.
