Maternal and Child Health Month

President Iain Valentine
& his grandsons on Ohinerau

I would like to thank all the members who attended and actively participated in the planning workshop last Monday. The results will inform the Board’s strategy, but the process to get there will continue to involve all members. Those who were unable to attend are encouraged to complete the two worksheets sent to you this week and return them to me as soon as possible. Those that did attend, I have sent one worksheet where you have the opportunity to record additional thoughts and suggestions. In both cases please reply to me by Saturday afternoon this week - by opening the document, typing in it, saving it appending your name in the document name, and sending it.

At next week’s meeting we will be welcoming members of The Rotary Club of Maungakiekie – we will run a joint meeting of our two clubs, sharing the meal and the keynote speaker at our venue. They have advised that they are very interested to meet us, and that they expect more than 20 of their members will attend.
This is the first chance to get to know other Clubs in our new Rotary Community grouping, and I am hoping that there will be a good attendance by our members.
I have invited newly elected Malcolm Stapleton (Parnell Rotary) to say a few words to us as the leader of our group, known by the name “Central Auckland Rotary Community”.

After the meeting on Monday, a group of us will be travelling to Auckland Airport to welcome the arrival at 10.20pm of our inbound exchange student Melanie Helgesen, from Denmark. As previously advised Deeanah & family are the host family for 1st 3 months, and are prepared to do a 2nd stint of 3 months. Unfortunately there has been a change of plan with the role of counselor - Feifei has urgent business to attend to in China and will be returning there on 20 August until the end of 2024. I have stepped up as counselor to Melanie for the 12 month period - Annabelle & I will provide her accommodation for the first 12 days. Members will be introduced to Melanie at the Club meeting on Monday 22nd July.
The good news is that Feifei is prepared to be the 4th host family for Melanie – the 2nd term of 2025. We continue to look for Host families, from both within the Club and our adjacent clubs.

Reminder: Apologies must be recorded on line before 10.30am Monday mornings. If you have any problems with notifying your absence online, or you are an Honorary Member, please contact Secretary Kay on hkb@xtra.conz

Remember: a no show means a full charge for a meal will appear on your members account with the Club.

RI President Stephanie A. Urchick, has welcomed members to the Rotary year 2024-25 and thanked them for being a part of Rotary.

President Stephanie introduced the Action Plan, which aims to increase the impact of Rotary service, expand its reach, adapt to a changing world, and enhance the member experience.

President Stephanie encourages members to engage with their club leaders, conduct member satisfaction surveys, and learn about the benefits of membership.

She also challenges members to invite diverse individuals to join Rotary, support the effort to end polio, and become peacebuilders by enrolling in the Rotary Positive Peace Academy or attending the presidential peace conference in Istanbul, Turkey.

President Stephanie concluded her presentation by emphasizing the power of members to bring about positive change and achieve great things when united in a common purpose.
