Greetings,
33 Members and Guests were in attendance this week to hear Guest Speaker Sean Marston, Director of the International Nepal Fellowship. Sean spoke of the hardship of the living conditions endured by the Nepalese in the harsh alpine environment of the Himalayas. He also explained the cast system of Nepal society, the poverty and how Sir Edmond Hilary is more well known in Nepal for building Schools and Hospitals than for conquering Mt Everest. The Sergeant's session raised $182.00 for Sean's Trust, this will be rounded up to $250.00 from The Sunshine Fund - well done Sergeant John Cowan and thank you to everyone who contributed so generously. RYLA Awardees - this year Remuera Rotary has a team of six awardees attending, some sponsored by Remuera RC and some by awardee employers. Bryan Haggitt introduced four candidates Zahra Shahtahmasebi, Liam Wick, Sam Bickers and Paddy Dolan who gave a brief outline of their backgrounds. Peter Ross from the District 9920 RYLA Committee was also in attendance. We wished all the candidates well for their week long course starting this Saturday.
PDG Tony Fortune and Anne attended the recent Rotary International Convention in Melbourne. Being one of the 17,000 attendees Tony gave a very concise summary of the Convention highlights, the high calibre of the keynote speakers and recommended to Members to attend at least one Convention. This Convention was Tony and Anne's 7th. The next one, in May next year will be in Singapore - it won't be a budget Convention but will be spectacular.
Colin Wilson's Funeral will be held on Friday June 23 at 12 noon at Purewa Crematorium, St Johns Rd, Meadowbank.
