To All Members and Friends of Remuera Rotary:
School holidays and I was away with family and missed our third political speaker, Brooke van Velden, Act's candidate for the Tamaki Electorate. I understand though that she spoke very well - as did Greg Fleming and Camilla Belich previously.
Rotary is totally Apolitical but it was good to meet these less well known candidates from different electorates.
Thank you once again Wayne for standing in for me and also dealing with the attendance details of our next Meeting, the Starship Auction at the Good George on 9 October.
School holidays are a blessing - great family time (two birthdays celebrated at the bach) and, far less traffic than in Auckland!!

Murray Weatherston thanked Brooke van Velden
Brooke Van Velden has stated her reasons for entering politics are to reduce generational debt, improve housing affordability, and provide better mental health for all. She supported the End of Life Choice Bill based on her belief in freedom of choice. In a debate about legalising cannabis, van Velden said that she had smoked it before. She was formerly a Green Party voter but switched to supporting ACT while studying economics and international trade at the University of Auckland.

This is the week before Election Day, so political awareness will be high. The bottles of wine we have that have been signed by politicians should be at their most marketable.
