The Presidents Message
President David welcomed members and their guests, Jenny Haggitt, James Cameron, Julia Twist, Karina Andrews, Stephen Tordeich, our Speaker, Warwick Beauchamp and his partner Jenny Vernon.
Speaker
Bryan Haggitt introduced Warwick Beauchamp as being a successful Entrepreneur, Educator, Author, Business Coach & Advisor. Warwick is passionate about Entrepreneurship & Business success and is one the founders of the Apps, Parkable and Campable. Warwick talked to us about ‘Disruptive Technology’.
Warwick said he wanted his presentation to inspire and unsettle at the same time. His engaging talk provided examples of disruptive technology starting with the Wikipedia definition of ‘digital disruption’ and as he pointed out Wikipedia is a prefect example of digital disruption as it has taken over from traditional encyclopaedia and of course the door-to-door sales people who sold them.
If you have been in business for the last 20 years, you need to look at practices e.g. companies that have disrupted traditional practises; e.g. Uber, Air BnB, Electric cars, Online media, 3D printing machines, Mobile phones instead of landlines.
Warwick, being one of the founders of the Parkable App, says they disrupted Wilson Parking by going to Churches and Bowling Clubs and loading available parking spaces onto the App for the public to use. The successful Parkable App is going to Australia very soon.
Warwick gave us insight into a new ‘tradies’ app that will save a lot of time and money.
The App allows the tradie to conduct a ‘virtual site inspection’. The client texts the tradie and give access to the camera on his phone which allows the client to walk around the house, so the tradie can see, hear and measure the proposed alterations. This will also work for the plumbing profession.
Leigh Marshall thanked Warwick for his very engaging presentation.

Trees for Survival –
First planting Day for Tamaki Primary School, 7 August 2018
written by Jo Drillien
It seems hard to believe that it is nearly a year since The Growing Unit was opened at Tamaki Primary School and the first seedlings were put into their little bags to be looked after by a group of children until they were ready to be planted out in their permanent positions.
Now that day had come so off we went in a bus: David Hunt and myself were joined by two teachers, several mothers, two Rotarians and a group of very excited and thus noisy children to a farm in Clevedon, an Auckland Council chosen site. There we were joined by a group from Accor Hotels, some of the boys who had helped with the plumbing work of The Unit at the school and an advisor from the Council.
Everyone worked hard enjoying the beautiful surroundings on a gorgeous day. Approximately 600 trees were planted in record time, 253 of those were from Tamaki Primary School.
The farmer, his wife and helpers looked after us really well providing lunch and morning tea, a chair for those of us who were struggling a bit, a walking stick (well actually a length of polyethylene pipe but it worked) and later a ride back up the hill on a quad bike!
In the meantime the Growing Unit remains empty while we wait for the next lot of seedlings to arrive and for the experienced children to teach some new ones how to look after little trees.
Waiatarua Reserve Special Tree Planting Project Cleanup
Members helped cleanup and weed our portion of trees planted last year in the Waiatarua Reserve on Saturday 4th August (see photo). The Ellerslie-Sunrise Club members worked nearby. Our trees are growing remarkably well and look very healthy.
