 President Leigh Marshall

Special thanks to Murray Weatherston for stepping up as President while Leigh is overseas.

This weeks meeting had a full programme with our Guest Speaker, District Governor Steve Chaney and his wife Edith, our RYLA candidates and our Sergeant session with Jim Bradley.

President Murray also welcomed Peter Ross who is the District Youth Projects Chair which includes RYLA.

Our next meeting will be the last for the current Rotary year and it will be very interesting to have Professor Mark Henaghan who is a Professor at the University of Auckland talking to us about Relationship Law.

The District Changeover is going to be at our Club Venue - Carlton Cornwall Bowling Club on Sunday 3rd July at 9.00am.  It would be nice to have some of our members at this event.

Speaker: District Governor - Steve Chaney

Our District Governor (DG), Steve Chaney opened his presentation in Te reo.

DG Steve told us it has been a privilege for him and his wife Edith to 'serve' D9920 Clubs during the 2021-22 year.  Steve and Edith work in partnership with one another to get the mahi/work done.  Edith is the D9920 Leadership Development Chair.

The huge amount of 'voluntary' work and hours at District Level by over 70 experienced individual people to support clubs to:

  • Prepare Club Presidents, Boards and all members for their roles.  Look at Rotary.Org Learning Centre https://learn.rotary.org/learn/sign in to find out more.
  • Work with Area Governors as important links from Clubs to District.

Covid19 has given the opportunity to do Rotary differently as well as connecting us to the use of different digital platforms such as Zoom, Teams, Google Meet. This has enabled us to stay connected within our Rotary families within the District and across the globe.

The hybrid model of in-person and online is here to stay and is an important 'pivot' to engage new membership into Rotary.

Rotary has become even more relevant to a range of people within our communities.

Rotary has not stopped over 2021 - 22 Year and D9920 can be proud of its continued delivery of projects that have had a positive impact within their communities in these extraordinary times.  Special mention was made of the Oxygen Project being delivered by our Club and the Rotary Club of Suva.

New developments  include:

  • Redistricting - Combining of D9910 and D9920 due to decreasing membership numbers
  • Regionalisation - Creating tomorrow - Rotary creatingtomorrowrotary.org
  • RI Convention - 27 - 31 May 2023in Melbourne.  We are all encouraged to consider going to this Convention.
In closing, Steve and Edith thanked us for our continued dedication to 'Serve to Change Lives in 2021-22 and wishes us all the very best for the 2022-23 year.
