This week 30 Members and guests were treated to a superb joint meeting with Auckland East and St Johns Clubs at 5 Knots on Tamaki Drive. Venue problems experienced previously were ironed out. Guest speaker, Simon Bridges gave a dynamic address. Despite trying to not be Political Simon commented on a wide range of topics from Auckland business issues to a prediction (sort of) on the outcome of the upcoming election.
A couple, Mr and Mrs K.L. Raisinghani from the Rotary Club of Jaipur, India were guests and it was my pleasure, along with the Presidents of St Johns and Auckland East to exchange banners, a Rotary tradition we don't get to do very often these days.
At last week's meeting I proposed a Fellowship weekend in Pauanui before the end of summer but due to the uncertainty of the roading situation we have decided to postpone until Summer 2024.
Dress code - over the years this topic has been raised regularly. I always understood that shorts were ok during daylight saving but apparently not. So Fellows, please take note, our lady members take exception to hairy legs on display. Shorts are fine for doing the lawns or watching cricket but not at the Rotary Dinner table apparently. We need to respect fellow members standards and not distract from the decorum of the meeting.
Our speaker next Monday is Huia Hanlen from Brainwave Trust.
In addition to Colin Wilson, Roy Austin is in hospital undergoing assessments. Almoner Niel Ewart is in regular contact with both Dawn and Janet and will keep us informed of their progress. Roy would like visitors but not at the moment please. Niel will advise when it is appropriate for visitors. As noted elsewhere in this bulletin Colin can receive visitors, contact Dawn first.
