Dave grew up in Wellington and followed his father into the Police Force. After six years and at the age of 25, he enrolled to read Law at Victoria University and after graduating specialized in Litigation Law.

 

He later became interested in Duke Boxes and built the first digital Duke Box which he released and was very well received at a business Expo in London for innovation. This Duke Box was far more powerful than anything else at that time.

 

The hiring out of these digital Duke Boxes really took off and he eventually sold that company to establish Digital Billboards and Digital Advertising. Dave intends to make digital media advertising, particularly large billboards available to everyone from small local businesses to large corporates by offering 1 cent or 1 dollar clicks.

Technology has moved so far now that if you search for a commodity on your device or phone a digital Billboard will recognize this and if you have recently searched for a spa pool for instance suddenly the billboard in front of you will display a spa pool ad. Or if you are driving a Volvo it will suddenly display an ad for Mercedes or BMW.

 

Dave manages the Remuera Rotary sign at New World Remuera and is planning to piggy back advertising onto that screen off Billboards he has in the area, namely Newmarket and Greenlane.

 

Of the many questions Dave was asked about road safety one was were large digital billboards a distraction? His answer, far less distracting than static billboards with only a 0.02 % distraction rate. Hugh Garlick gave a vote of thanks.

 

After completing his post graduation, he started manufacturing pharmaceuticals, fine chemicals etc in India in late 1970s. He was engaged in International trade and visited US and European countries frequently for business. He migrated to New Zealand in 1999-2000. He was exporting food products, pharmaceuticals, medical devices in South Pacific countries such as Fiji, PNG, Samoa, Tuvalu, Kiribati etc. He was providing healthcare services in South Pacific countries. He recruited doctors, nurses and paramedical staff to many South Pacific countries for many years. He has been engaged in charitable work in the healthcare sector in South Pacific countries, India, Nepal, Ghana etc for more than 30 years. He conducted free medical camps in many countries like PNG, Fiji, Tuvalu, Nauru etc in specialised areas including Oncology, Cardiology, Advanced Orthopaedic, Neurology and Neurosurgery etc. He assisted Pacific country Governments with local capacity being built up. He is a managing Trustee of Ayus Charitable Trust, Auckland, New Zealand and looking forward for assisting and helping people in underdeveloped and developing countries.

Back in January, Remuera Rotary arranged sponsorship for Kevin to undertake a Spirit of NZ 10 day voyage. This week Kevin expressed  his appreciation to the Club. He said that although he was very nervous at first about doing the voyage it was the most amazing experience of his life so far. Departing Auckland the ship sailed throughout the Hauraki Gulf  before returning to Auckland.

 

One of Kevin's fellow students made a short video of the voyage which he presented to Members showing how the students swam off the ship, kayaked, set sails high up in the spas, cleaned up beaches, cooked and scrubbed They also hiked and learnt about seamanship and conservation. Kevin also thanked The June Gray Trust who provided the funding.
