Maternal and Child Health Month

President Bryan Haggitt

Changeover last Monday evening with 47 attending who enjoyed an excellent meal provided by Let's Eat.

What a joy that Betsy, Lady Elliott, Robin Fraser and Beverley Laing could attend along with so many Rotary wives. Plus a warm welcome to Annabel Lush, a Past President of Ellerslie Sunrise Rotary Club who is about to become a member.

Wonderful to have Joyti Singh present representing District - she most kindly presented the Club with the 2023/24 Banner - "Create Hope in the World" - and also an Award for District 9920's 3rd Most Generous Club for our giving to Rotary Foundation.

A number of members are overseas and school holidays prevented several from being present (call of the snow?). Sadly, also illness - very best wishes to Ken Neighbours and Jim Bradley for speedy recovery.

And very grateful thanks to Past President Wayne - not only is he to be congratulated on the Club's achievements over the past year but he and Sharon, with assistance from Kevin, organised and set up the changeover decorations and table settings. Moreover, it was Wayne's outgoing Presidential shout that provided the pre dinner drinks. Thanks again Wayne for your generosity and for the Club's splendid 2022/23 Year!

Jenny and I were hugely honoured to receive the "Lionel Laing Fellowship Award" from Beverley Laing. Hardly deserving, I would have thought, "The Crate" has been gathering cobwebs in my garage this past year - something to be rectified very shortly (watch this space)!! But thank you indeed Beverley, the ice bucket is resplendent on our bookcase and we will very much enjoy the bottle of GH Mumm champagne!

In last week's Remoirs I briefly set out details of this year's Directorships and Committees. Jenny and I are now heading to my bach at Kakahi till 14 July and once again I am so grateful to Past President Wayne for holding the fort until we are back.

Meantime, I remind members of RI's new theme for 2023/24 "Create Hope in the World" and I wish all of you and your families a most exciting, rewarding and enjoyable Rotary year!

Bryan - emulating RI President by wearing a kilt!

Outgoing president Wayne noted:

For me the highlight of the year had to be the commissioning of the International Fiji Oxygen Project. After 6 years and nearly $620,000.00 raised, 24 oxygen concentrators,20 pulse oximeters have been installed in eight locations, three of these Solar Powered in remote locations. An extremely successful project with Cure Kids and the Fiji Ministry of Health which came in under budget - the surplus to hopefully be used to extend the project to further locations.

During the year the following Sunshine Fund distributions were made:
Life Education Trust - $500.00 (Auckland East Project)
Kidney Kids - $500.00,
Friends of Laura Ferguson Trust - $250.00
Hearts 4 Kids $1000.00 (2X $500.00)
Ukraine NZ Rotary Appeal - $500.00 (towards purchased armored ATV Mine destruction vehicle)
Cyclone Gabrielle Appeal - $5000.00 (subsidized with other funding)
Nepal Fellowship Trust - $250.00,
Starship Paediatric Shower Hoist - $500.00 (Joint Fundraising Project with Auckland East)
Appreciation and Thank you to the Sergeants for boosting the Sunshine Fund over the year.

Four new Members were Inducted during the year,
Bipan Bansal, Ingrid Grieve, Ivy Thomson and Pam Worth;
but unfortunately Louise Broad, Kelly McKeown and Ivy Thomson resigned due to work commitments.
