This Monday’s Meeting (26th August), will be at Maungakiekie Rotary Club. The venue is Royal Oak Bowls Club at 136 Selwyn Street, Onehunga. This is at the top end of Selwyn Street, close to the junction with Mt. Smart Road. There is a large car park on the right as you come in the entrance driveway.
The format for the meeting is:
Meet at 5:30pm for 6pm and finish at approximately 7pm.
6pm to 6:30pm - three students from Epsom Normal Primary School will give their winning speeches
6:30pm - Dinner
7:00pm - Guest Speaker Liz Ferris, Centre Manager of Te Papapa Preschool in Mt. Smart Road. The Centre has just marked 10 years of operation and the Manugakiekie Rotary Club was involved with its establishment.
If any Honorary Members are going to attend, please advise Kay Brookes via email - hkb@xtra.co.nz - no later than 1pm on Friday 23rd August.
Active Members who are not going to attend this meeting are required to enter an apology in the usual way, no later than 1pm on Friday, 23rd August.
If there is no Apology received by you then it will be assumed that you are attending and will subsequently be charged for a meal.
If you have a problem with entering your Apology, then please advise Kay and she will enter it for you.
If you are bringing a Partner/Guest, then please load these in the normal way.
Last Monday’s Meeting
Tony M Fortune
It was with great sadness that President Iain started the meeting with a minutes silence to acknowledge the very sad and sudden passing of Tony Fortune who has been a long standing and enormous Rotary contributing member within our Club and also District 9920. Iain shared messages of condolence he has received from members. A bouquet of flowers has been sent to Anne's home on behalf of the Club. A private cremation is being held this week and a celebration of Tony's life will be planned for a later date.
RYLA 2024
Bryan Haggitt introduced Mathew Presland, Olivia Anderson and Patrick Dean who were three the RYLA Awardees sponsored by our Rotary Club. It was interesting to hear what that week meant to them. We watched a video of some of the highlights of the week and Peter Ross spoke about how well RYLA was executed with this being the first year without the involvement of the Army. Our Club also sponsored Cate Pedersen and Ewan Anderson who were unable to attend our meeting.
ROMAC
Damien, a two year old seriously ill heart patient is arriving from Vanuatu with his mother at the end of September for Surgery at Starship Hospital in October.
Remuera RC will be the host Club lead by Sharon and Wayne Brewer. Accommodation will be at Ronald MacDonald House but the family will require support for shopping and excursions etc. Wayne and Sharon will take care of clinic, Doctor and Hospital appointments but may require back up assistance from time to time.
