Wayne Brewer and Bryan Haggitt, our Co-Presidents for the 2025 - 2026 Rotary Year

Messages From Co-President Wayne Brewer
This week with 21 in attendance, Co-President Wayne filled in for Co-President Bryan who was on holiday at his Bach with his Grandchildren.

Speaker last Monday - Tim Sinclair

Our Guest Speaker Tim Sinclair, is a Geo Tech Engineer, born in Africa to Kiwi parents, Educated in England and after graduating from university, worked in Africa for a number of years.  After a sojourn in Asia, Tim and his wife Wilma with their two children settled down in Victoria Ave.

Tim spent the remainder of his career with Tonkin and Taylor. He related several fascinating stories of solving other people's geo-technical engineering problems. The most difficult one was solving how the Bank of Namibia ended up with a modern building built like Fort Knocks  and a half meter thick vault door which would not open or close. The vault was packed with gold and cash. Tim ascertained that very minor ground movement under the thick concrete floor caused by a water table increase had caused the steel pins locking the door to jam.

A fascinating address full of intriguing situations most of us would never have imagined.

Murray Weatherston spoke of his plans for Fellowship this Rotary Year and asked Members to come forward with suggestions.  Please refer to the message in last week's Remoirs.

Committees are due to meet again on 28th July to firm up on projects. Funding is available so please come forward with new project suggestions.

Catherine was the lucky recipient of this week's draw taking home a bottle of wine in lieu of the Sergeants session.  This is an initiative to compensate for the increase in the meal cost.

Next Monday the 14th July, we have our Rylarians who will share their thoughts on this year's RYLA adventure.  This year saw the biggest number of participants to be supported by our Club.
