CHRIS JOHNSTON - PAERATA RISE - Chris, Norman's son, gave us a most interesting address on the huge development under way in South Auckland. Paerata Rise is being heavily advertised and it was fascinating to learn the background to this subdivision of Methodist land by Wesley College which, very largely, will be for the benefit of the College. Certainly this interested members and Chris was peppered with questions.
By coincidence, David McAuley and I were at Wesley College the previous week to interview 5 Year 12 girls who had applied to attend Rotary's Summer Science Forum. In the course of the interview I learned that whilst some of the girls were keen to play cricket none was played at Wesley. The Dean, Ngatia Vaike, was present and offered to manage the team and, thanks to the Parnell CC, I was able to present Chris with 3 gear bags of used gear. Hopefully cricket will now be a regular summer sport at the College - at least for the girls and, perhaps, the boys, too.
MEETING NEXT MONDAY - Speaker Camilla Belich - Camilla, an employment lawyer and Labour List MP, will have to leave by 6.50pm to attend another appointment. Therefore the Agenda for this Meeting has been amended to
5.30 Gather for pre Meeting drinks
6.00 Meeting - Welcome - Camilla introduced - delivers her address
6.40 Adjourn for Dinner
7.15 Club Notices and Sergeant's Session
7.30 Meeting concludes.
RESIGNATION OF RICHARD VEBER - Very sadly, Richard has written to resign his active membership. He has been a most popular member for many, many years and has served Rotary wonderfully. I proposed that Richard remains part of this Club as an Honorary Member and he has accepted this role. His hearing has suffered from his stroke and this prevents him enjoying meetings as he once did though he and Clare will be attending our Christmas Party. We wish them both all the very best but still look forward to seeing them from time to time on special occasions.
Enjoy the slightly warmer weather and the cherry blossom of Spring and look forward to the Meeting next Monday
