Communicare is a not-for-profit association which has been serving the seniors, lonely and disabled within Auckland. Dot was awarded a Rotary Service Award from President Norman for 55 years of volunteering for Communicare.

Dot Lamb has been a volunteer with Communicare all her married life.

Communicare was started by four women to care for people with disabilities.  They now run 21 Friendship Centres in Central, East, West and South Auckland serving more than 500 members weekly with the assistance of over 250 volunteers and a small team of part-time staff.  Each Centre is open one day a week during school term time from 9.30am to 1.00pm.  Morning tea and a light lunch is served and there is a small daily cost which contributes towards this.

Centres offer a variety of activities such as handcraft, exercises, and board games.  Communicare is very grateful for grants received from generous sponsors.  Adrian from New World contributes Vouchers to the Remuera Communicare Centre which meets at St. Marks Church Hall, on Tuesdays.

If you know of anyone who would benefit from attending Communicare sessions, please encourage them to come along to St. Mark's.

Communicare depends on Volunteer helpers to operate their Centres.  If you, or someone else you know of, has some time to help others enjoy life, please get in touch by phoning 631- 5968.  Their website is www. communicare.co.nz.  Communicare is a treasure of care, comfort and joy for people.
