Cindy has put together 4 exclusive one off trips for Rotarians, friends, and family.
This week we are going to feature the trip to Otago Peninsula, The Catlin’s, & Stewart Island departing 28 November 2021.

Cindy, your escort, will speak about this unique and exclusive 6 day/5-night trip designed especially for our Remuera Rotary group at the club meeting on Monday 16 August 2021.

Here is a quick look at the itinerary.

Day 1 – Arrive in Dunedin and travel along the Otago Peninsula stopping for lunch en-route to Harrington, a private conservation effort to save the worlds’ most endangered penguin from extinction, arriving at Lanarch Castle approximately 4:00P. This gives us time to enjoy the award-winning gardens in this lovingly restored luxury castle. Dinner will be in keeping with an historic setting served house party style.

Day 2 - After breakfast we head to the Catlin’s coast and Tunnel beach (with a pre-packed lunch), Nugget point/Tokata Lighthouse and Cathedral Caves.
Overnight at The Whistling Frog Motel. This property reflects the unique character of the Catlin’s and her communities. Outdoor seating areas allow you to sip your tea or coffee whilst listening to the bellbirds nearby.
Dinner tonight is in the famous Whistling Frog restaurant.

Day 3 – After Breakfast we head further south to Curio Bay and on to Slope Point, the southernmost point on the South Island and the most spectacular views of a very rugged coast. A fascinating sight here are the crooked and bent trees. The cold winds of the Antarctic Ocean whirl uninterrupted causing strong winds on this exposed coast in such a persistent and violent manner that the trees are perpetually warped and windswept.

We will arrive in Invercargill for an early afternoon flight to Stewart Island.
Accommodation for the next two nights will be at the iconic South Sea Hotel.

This evening we will take a cruise from Stewart Island Halfmoon Bay across Paterson Islet to Little Glory Cover, passing Ulva Island (a predatory free sanctuary) on the way go a Kiwi Spotting tour.

Dinner will be a 2-course meal at the South Sea Hotel depending on the start time of the Kiwi tour.

Day 4 - Breakfast will be served this morning before we take a short walk to Golden Bay to board the water taxi that will take us out to Ulva Island.
This where you will discover rare and endangered birds and plants at close quarters.
Exquisite seasonal orchids and very friendly birdlife will come close your camera lens!
You will have up 4 hours to wandering amongst the most beautiful botanical forested garden alive with birdsong in the southern most bird sanctuary in the World.
After returning to Oban and lunch we will embark on a leisurely wildlife and historical cruise around the stunning Southern Bays of Paterson Inlet. S sightings include Fiordland Crested penguins, Little Blue penguins, White fronted tern, Stewart Island Pied shags, and the striking Mollymawks. The second part of this afternoon will be a tour of the historical Whalers Base.
Dinner tonight will be at the South Sea Hotel.

Day 5 - We will transfer to the Oban airport for our flight back to Invercargill.
On arrival in Invercargill, we will go sightseeing in Invercargill, NZ’s southernmost city, Bluff and visit the Transport Museum, including E-Hayes and Son’s, home to the world’s fastest Indian.

Accommodation and dinner are at the Ascot Park Hotel, an icon in Invercargill for 40 years.

Day 6 - Sadly, it is time to say goodbye to this incredibly beautiful part of New Zealand, pack up your memories and amazing photos and head home.
